A ccording to a survey on the “Human Resources Strategy
and Favorite University Graduates of 1,000 Top Businesses in
Taiwan,” NTU (台大), with a winning streak, is ranked number one the
second time this year, while NCKU (成大) and NCTU (交大) are ranked 2nd
and 3rd. NCCU (中正大學), as a new comer into the ranking, is number
15th and SCU (東吳大學), ranked 15th last year, was excluded out of the
ranking this year.
Based on the Survey conducted by Cheers
magazine, NTU finally took the championship last year from NCKU who
had been in that position for 10 years. NTU had been a runner-up for
a decade, but finally stood out with its student’s leading ability
to “put what they have learned in practice.” Thus, they ranked
number one again as the favorite of the businesses in Taiwan this
year.
In general, NTU excels in indicators such as
professional training and skills required at work. It ran far ahead
of NCKU in “International perspective and foreign languages,” in
which it also does better than graduates of every other university.
Judging from colleges, the businesses in Taiwan also prefer the
graduates from NTU.
However, a stereotype had been held
toward NTU graduates by Taiwanese businesses for years. For example,
they thought that NTU students did not practice teamwork well and
were not as stable. Yet, on the Job Fair held at NTU this year, we
could see NTU hold a banquet with business representatives and asked
them for what they thought of people from NTU.
NTU President
Si-Chen Lee (李嗣涔) said that “it takes time to change how people
judge us,” but it probably did not have to take that long. We can
see that NTU moved from 8th to the second place in the indicator of
“stability and compressibility” this year, running very closely
behind NCKU. It is evident that “NTU People” have been transforming
as well.
The 2008 Survey on the “Human Resources Strategy and
Favorite University Graduates of 1,000 Top Businesses in Taiwan”
conducted by Cheers magazine is based on the data collected by
Common Wealth Magazine from the questionnaires giving to the human
resources superintendents of 1,000 top businesses in Taiwan, 2007.
The survey was carried out from February 14th to March 14th. 1,600
questionnaires were distributed and 420 valid responses were
collected. The return rate is 26.25%.
